These photographs were shot on a subway platform nestled in some overgrowth near Rockaway Beach in Queens, NY. The process of creating the photos involves exposing one sheet of 4x5 film multiple times while in between exposures moving the camera to another scene or flipping the negative in the same place. Nighttime exposures last from 15 to 30 minutes each and as a result planes flying through the frame to nearby JFK airport appear to paint streaks in the sky. The end results are nature scenes with urban elements combining the manufactured landscape and the overgrown plant world to create a ghostly jungle.
